Vino di Anna Palmento Bianco- I'm in a serious love affair with this winery
From Ned at Devenish:
Another lovely Etna wine from Vino di Anna! Palmento Etna Bianco is a field blend of indigenous organic Sicilian white grapes from up on the northern slopes of Mt Etna.
Aroma: big expressive sunny peachy pineapple, honey graham cracker, and a bit of sweet ripe cantaloupe
Taste: wow! This has a gorgeous mid-palate/finish. There's a pale sort of orange flavor right at first and it's nice and easy going with a little hint of spice.... then bam! the mid palate pounces on you with rich baked lemon and flavors of golden raisins, cantaloupe, and guava. A strong flavor of savory baked goods and spice- like toasted oats and a touch of sweet vanilla. The flavors are all deliciously well integrated. It's not intensely acidic or salty and the lowish alcohol is probably part of why the wine still comes across as thirst quenching and easy to drink even though it's so rich and interesting. It's cleaner than the color and cloudy appearance lead you to believe and is really quite fresh and lovely!
All the fruit is hand harvested from different vineyards during the month of September. The Catarratto, Inzolia and Grillo grapes were harvested first, and whole bunch pressed immediately into stainless. At the end of September the Grecanico grapes, along with a bit of Minnella Bianca and #Carricante were harvested. Half the grapes were macerated on skins for 7 days. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation happened without temperature control, then all the grape varieties were blended at the end of October. The wine then went through malolactic fermentation and rested on the lees for 5 months before bottling without fining or filtration in March 2021.
