La Miraja "La Ribotà" Ruché Chinato- rare, fortified wine elixir
100% Ruche. This enticing fortified wine elixir, first developed by a pharmacist in the 1800’s, is a blend of the winery’s DOCG-level wine with botanicals including china (or quinuina), wormwood, cardamom seed, cinnamon, and orange peel, plus some more secret family recipe ingredients. This is actually the only Chinato made from Ruche in the world. Eugenio Gatti makes this to his family's recipe going back generations in a similar way to the Chinato fortified aperitifs from Barolo. It is a ridiculously rare wine.
Drinking the Chinato the texture is rich and viscous. The acidity is still there and fresh but then, whew! flavors of burnt orange peel, spicy cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon are all identifiable in the mid palate, then more orange comes in with the finish. There's a hint of bitterness, but also it's rich and ripe and has some residual sugar hiding behind that more prominent aromatic flavors.
